Course Description:

This is an intensive English language bridging course for the post-graduate students of science, intended to enhance and improve the language competency of the students to international standards. This course is designed to prepare the students to use English language in their Master’s Course. This course intends to develop language competency in four basic language skills i.e. listening, speaking, reading, and writing, besides giving insights into fundamentals of grammar and core IELTS vocabulary. The material of the course is meticulously selected from the internationally recognized English language testing system i.e. IELTS in order to introduce, train, and develop the students’ competency in using English language in academics. This is a one-year course and is delivered in four quarters of 9/8/9/8 weeks each quarter respectively i.e. (34 weeks). The number of contact hours is 20 per week.

Note: At the end of the course, it is mandatory for the students to take the IELTS test conducted by the British Council and get 5.5 band score to secure admission in the Master’s Course. This Intensive Course is just a preparatory program for the IELTS.

Speaking Outcomes:
• Make simple descriptive statements about people, places and things.
• Speak simple factual statements about weather, countries and sports.
• Speak simple statements comparing ideas and things.
• Speak in compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions.
• Give short speech about a famous person or place.
• Describe photographs using the appropriate vocabulary.
• Choose the right person for a job and describe various careers
• Ask and give opinions.
• Discuss ideas in a group.
• Give a report and talk about results.

• Use Capital letters and full stop efficiently
• Write descriptive sentences with proper vocabulary and grammar
• Describe the place where you live
• Organize a paragraph into a topic sentence, supporting sentences and a concluding sentence
• Describe a festival or special event
• Describe education by generating ideas using wh- questions
• Write a one-sided opinion paragraph-Persuasive paragraph
• Write introductory sentences for descriptive paragraphs about a graph
• Describe a graph using collocations
• Organize events in a process in the correct order
• Eliminate irrelevancies
• Write a process paragraph using linkers and correct prepositions of movement
